We recently tried Sol Cuisine Veggie Sausage Patties. What caught my attention was that these patties are gluten free and vegan (contains no animal products).
The patties were delicious! If you would like to make it even more flavorful or spicy, you can add crushed chili pepper and onion salt. So good!
On the packaging, it states it is a superfood. A superfood is a non-medical term. The term superfood can be considered as a non processed food or nutrient dense. But, again, it is not a scientifically based term. I decided to check out the rest of the label.
According to the packaging, the sausage patties are a good source of Vitamin B12, Zinc and Iron. These are good additions to the sausage. Individuals on a vegetarian or vegan diet can lack these nutrients if they are not careful in their food choices.
The claim for "Heart Healthy" health claim is listed because the sausage contains at least 6.25 grams of soy protein. These findings are inconsistent, but currently this health claim is allowed because there is some evidence that this is true.

As you can see, on the ingredient list, the sausage has been fortified (vitamins added) with Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin), Zinc (Zinc Oxide) and Iron (Ferric Orthophosphate).
Other B vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin and niacin have been added. You can find these nutrients in milk products.
As you can see, Sol Cuisine has 15% of iron, 35% Vitamin B12 and 20% of what you may need each day. The percent daily value is based on DV s are based on a 2000 calorie diet for healthy adults.
Sol Cuisine sausages are a good source of protein. Each serving has about the same amount of protein as 1 egg, or an ounce of chicken, beef or fish.
