Fun Fact Friday! How many Fruits and Veggies did you eat today?

Updated: Feb 28, 2022

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nine out of 10 Americans do not eat enough fruits and vegetables. The US Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends that adults who eat a 2,000-calorie diet should eat at least two cups of fruit per day and 2 and a half cups of vegetables everyday! If you are not used to eating these many fruits and veggies, it can seem overwhelming.

Adding fruits and veggies in 1/2 cup increments can make this transition more manageable. For example, starting with a small fruit once or twice a day and slowly increasing it to the four half cup servings per day can help you make it more of a lasting habit. As you are increasing your fruit intake, consider adding a 1/2 cup serving of vegetables at one to two meals until you reach the four and a half 1/2 cup recommendation.
